Top Things To Do in London in February
Well that’s January over and done with, doesn’t it feel good to move into February? While the weather is still chilly there’s definitely some love in the air and maybe a pancake or two this month, so let’s see what you can do in London this February.
Chinese New Year – Starting 8th February with the main parade on Sunday 14th February
With events across the capital, London’s annual Chinese New Year celebrations are the biggest in the world outside China. 2016 is the year of the monkey, so why not catch up with the parade which starts at 10 am along Charing Cross Road and Shaftesbury Avenue. At midday Trafalgar Square will see performances from acrobats, high pole dancers and troupes from China.
Of course you can visit Chinatown to see the amazing New Year decorations along with the special events in the restaurants, bars, cafes and shops, as well as all sorts of food and craft stalls which line the streets.
You can also get a taste of China in Shoreditch at Rich Mix on Saturday 13th February and celebrate the Chinese New Year with free activities throughout the day, organised by the Chinese Association of Tower Hamlets with performances, charity stalls and arts and crafts workshops.
Treat yourself and celebrate Pancake Day with a pancake extravaganza at Shutterbug on Shrove Tuesday. This Shoreditch cocktail bar and crêperie will be serving up pancake styles from both sides of the pond. So whether you prefer a savoury galette with mushroom and truffle oil followed by a sweet crêpe with salted caramel and flaked almonds or American-style pancakes topped with blueberries and bacon and drizzled with maple syrup, it’s all on the menu at Shutterbug.
Not got time to sit down? Then order your pancake to take away and make sure you get your Pancake Day fix.
It time to share the love whether with friends or a loved one and head to the Village Underground for Kitsune Club Night – French Kiss Party Valentine’s Special with a Parisian twist on Saturday 13 February. Kitsune are returning to Shoreditch and taking over for the night, so come ready to dance, dress up to get down to the amorous audio delights, pioneering DJs and a blood pumping mix of new faces and break through acts.
Until the 27th February you can glide around the skate path and take a spin on the ice rink at Canary Wharf and embrace the winter weather. If you’re not up to dancing on the ice just yet, you can hire seal-themed skating aids or watch your friends from the heated viewing terrace if you prefer.
It’s open from 11am to 11pm Monday to Friday, 10am to 11pm on Saturdays and school holidays and 10am to 10pm on Sundays with tickets starting from £9.95.
